Elder sister of Frances, Margaret also studied at Glasgow School of Art: there she met Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whom she married in 1900. She collaborated in Mackintosh's decorative work, providing distinctive textiles and low relief gesso panels for wall decoration and furniture, notably for the Turin Exhibition of 1902 and the Warndorfer Music Room.
