Herbert Minton's nephew and successor, Colin Minton Campbell joined Minton & Co. in 1845 and was jointly responsible for running the company with Michael Daintry Hollins from 1858 to 1868. A dispute over tiles broke up the firm in 1868 and Hollins set up Minton, Hollins & Co. making decorative tiles. Campbell was responsible for the 'Art' initiatives set up by the firm of Minton & Co. Dresser was designing for the firm from 1866; the cloisonne wares were produced soon after; the Art Pottery Studio at Kensington Gore was set up in 1871. These experiments, though in the case of the Kensington Gore Studio unprofitable and short-lived, paved the way for the Art Pottery movement in Britain and America. In 1875 he established the Campbell Brick & Tile Co. to produce decorative Gothic tiles, exhibiting in Philadelphia in 1876 and Paris in 1878.
