Dating from the late 1880's the company was initially based at Kyre Hall, and associated with the architect A S Dixon. It was formally founded in 1890 with Montague Fordham as its first director. Modeled on the founding principals of Ashbee’s Guild and School of Handicraft commercial pressures soon took their toll and in 1905 the company was merged with E & R Gittins. In 1919 the company was further merged with Hart, Son & Pearl.
